a Ride We will do our best to encourage everyone who is driving and has room, to offer rides to those without transportation. In the event that a group of folks still don't have a ride I will assist in renting a vehicle. The cost of the rental, tolls, and gas will be split by those sharing the ride. If you need a ride or have room in your vehicle, please notify me ASAP so I can coordinate transportation for everyone in need.
By Public Transportation
Transportation from NYC to Livingston Manor is available via the Shortline Bus Company. Round trip fare is approximately $65. Please call Shortline at 212-736-4700. The taxi from Livingston Manor to the Zendo (20 miles away) is about $65 round trip and reservations should be made in advance by calling 914-439-5660
By car
Go over the George Washington Bridge and exit from the right lane on to the Palisades Parkway North. After 30 minutes take Exit 18 to Rte. 6 West (this exit forks to the left and you come immediately to a traffic circle). Go halfway around the circle, follow signs for Rte.6 West to Rte. 17 West. Or take New York Thruway to Rte. 17 West ( Exit 16) Follow Rte. 17 West to Exit 96/Livingston Manor (about 1 hour). Follow exit ramp to yield sign and make a right. ( DBZ is about 45-60 minutes from this exit.)
Within 100 yards there is a T -Junction and a stop sign. Turn right. Drive for about one mile. After you see a sign for King's Catering, take the first right onto Beaverkill Road/Sullivan Co./Rte. 151. Stay on Beaverkill Road; the monastery is 19 miles from this point. The road's number will change to Ulster Co/Rte 152. The Beaverkill river will be on your left for most of the way. Always keep to the right. 5/9 miles from Exit 96 is the town of Lew Beach. 12.6miles from Exit 96 there will be a "y" intersection. Keep right to Turnwood. 15.7 miles from 96, Quill Gordon Lodge will be on the left. 18.2 miles from Exit 96 will be a white French-style chateau on the right; the entrance to DBZ is less than a mile from here on the left.
Drive through the main gate and follow the road for about 2 miles. The monastery is at the end of the road. You may drive up to unload and then park in the parking out by the wood storage shed.
Special Notes
Total travel time from NYC is approximately 3 hours. Ignore all Dead End signs. Livingston Manor is the last chance for fuel before DBZ.
A $250 Deposit is required for
each workshop.
